Community events

Host a shred day.

Banks, credit unions, churches, schools and neighborhood associations run these with us every year. We plan the day with you, park the trucks, and shred whatever residents bring while they stand there and watch.

Why host one

People turn up, and they remember who ran it.

A shred day is the rare community event where everyone who comes leaves having actually dealt with something. People arrive carrying boxes they have been meaning to sort out for years, and they leave having watched them destroyed.

01

It brings people to your door

Banks and credit unions run these because a queue of local residents outside your branch for a morning is worth more than most advertising.

02

It is a real service

Identity theft is the reason most people come. You are giving neighbours a way to destroy old statements and tax records safely, for free, in front of them.

03

We do the work

You provide the car park and tell people it is happening. We bring the trucks, the crew and the plan, and we clear up afterwards.

Planning the day

We have done a lot of these.

The two things that decide whether a shred day goes well are how many trucks you have and how the cars move through the lot. Both are guessable in advance, and we would rather work them out with you a month ahead than on the morning.

  • How many trucks, based on the turnout you expect
  • Where cars queue, and where they leave from — a shred day that blocks a road ends early
  • How long to run, and what to do if the queue is still going
  • Whether to cap boxes per household, and how to say so up front
  • What to put on the flyer so people bring the right things

Coming to one

Looking for a shred day near you?

Shred days are hosted by banks, credit unions, churches and city offices rather than by us, so the dates come from them. Watch your bank's announcements, or ask us — we usually know what is coming up.

If you cannot wait for one, or you have more than a car boot's worth, you can bring boxes to us any working day for $10 a box. Call first so somebody is there to meet you.

Where we are

What to bring
